Triphala

 

This blend is a traditional Ayurvedic formula consisting of three fruits in equal parts – Amalaki, Bibhitaki and Haritaki. It is believed to be helpful and well suited to all constitutional body-types (doshas). 

 

In Ayurvedic medicine, Triphala has been used for immune system stimulation, improvement of digestion, relief of constipation, gastrointestinal tract cleansing, relief of gas, treatment of diabetes and treatment of eye disease. Triphala may reduce serum cholesterol, improve circulation, protect the heart and may improve liver function. It may be used as a mouthwash in the treatment of gingivitus. 

 

Preparations: Infusion – make a nourishing cup of tea. Triphala taken in the morning has a cleansing action or is a tonic if taken in the evening. As this formula is based on fruits, it is best not consumed with milk or dairy products.

Scientific Name: Embllica officinalis, Terminalia belliricam and Terminalia chebula.

 

Other Common Names: Three fruits
